Career

After his education, Chowdhury joined Feni College as a lecturer. He joined the police department in 1954. In 1964, he was the superintendent of police in Jessore District. He served as the Deputy Inspector General of Chittagong Range and then the

. Chowdhury played an important role in establishing the Dhaka Metropolitan Police in 1976 and was appointed its first commissioner. On 1 February 1984, Chowdhury was appointed the Inspector General of Bangladesh Police and served till 30th December 1985.
